Opened in 2008 through the Ethiopian Cultural
Heritage project with funding from the World Bank, the Archaeological Museum in
Axum offers a fascinating voyage through the empire's rich history. From
pre-Axumite artifacts to relics from the post-Axumite period, the museum
showcases the evolution of one of Africa's greatest ancient civilizations. The
collection includes not only archaeological treasures but also vibrant
traditional paintings, allowing visitors to delve deeper into the cultural
development of Axum. Within the museum’s grounds, handcraft centers offer a
unique opportunity to experience local artisans at work, further connecting
visitors to the vibrant heritage of the region.
