Sample Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Gohgot
Morning: Depart from Mekelle to the highlands of Eastern Tigray.
Afternoon: Commence your trek to Gohgot. Perched beneath a cliff, the Gohgot guesthouse provides panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and villages. A short hike leads to the Gohgot Eyesus rock church, offering a glimpse into the region's spiritual heritage.
Evening: Enjoy a traditional dinner and overnight stay at the Gohgot Community Guesthouse.
Day 2: Gohgot to Shimbrety
Morning: After breakfast, trek from Gohgot to Shimbrety. Situated on the western ridge of the Agame Mountains, the Shimbrety guesthouse is in proximity to the Mariam Buzuhan rock church. Explore a fascinating rock tunnel carved through the ridge, historically used by villagers to access the church.
Evening: Dinner and overnight at the Shimbrety Community Guesthouse.
Day 3: Shimbrety to Erar
Morning: Embark on a trek to Erar. The guesthouse, nestled on an isolated escarpment, boasts spectacular views of the Adwa Mountains and the Nebelet pillars. The area is rich in wildlife, including gelada baboons and various bird species. A visit to the renowned Mariam Kiat rock church enriches the cultural experience.
Evening: Dinner and overnight at the Erar Community Guesthouse.
Day 4: Erar to Enaf
Morning: Trek to Enaf, situated at an elevation of 3,000 meters. The guesthouse offers unparalleled views across the Agame massif and its valleys. En route, consider visiting the Debre Giyorgis church, notable for its ancient construction techniques.
Evening: Dinner and overnight at the Enaf Community Guesthouse.
Day 5: Enaf to Mugulat
Morning: Proceed to Mugulat, located on a spur extending from the main ridge. The guesthouse, perched above the village, allows guests to immerse themselves in the rhythms of local life while enjoying the surrounding landscapes.
Evening: Dinner and overnight at the Mugulat Community Guesthouse.
Day 6: Mugulat to Kiat
Morning: A 90-minute trek leads to the village of Kiat, nestled beneath a cliff face. The Kiat Mariam rock church, a highlight of the area, is accessible via a scenic path. Vehicles can be arranged to transport guests from the trailhead to destinations such as Axum or Adigrat.
Evening: Dinner and overnight at the Kiat Community Guesthouse.
Day 7: Kiat to Chehat
Morning: Journey northward to Chehat, a recent addition to our network. The ridge-top trail offers diverse vistas, passing near the peak of the Agame Mountains, standing at 3,333 meters. Chehat provides sweeping views toward Debre Damo and is easily accessible from the main road north of Adigrat.
Evening: Dinner and overnight at the Chehat Community Guesthouse.
Day 8: Chehat to Menyebeiti
Morning: The trail continues northeast to Menyebeiti, traversing fertile farmlands and vibrant villages. Cross the main road ascending from Adigrat and prepare for a challenging ascent up Amba Fekada. The summit rewards trekkers with panoramic views of Debre Damo Amba and the eastern gorges descending into the Rift Valley.
Evening: Dinner and overnight at the Menyebeiti Community Guesthouse.
