TIGRINYA

TIGRINYA

Tigrinya is the predominant language in Tigrai regional state and is also widely spoken in Eritrea. It belongs to the Ethiopia branch of Semitic language family. Like Amharic, it uses the syllabic alphabet of classical Ethiopic and Ge’ez.

Tigrinya words vary their endings according to the gender of the person you are speaking to; this is in this guide where relevant by the abbreviations ‘m’ (to a male) and ‘f’ (to a female).
